Paul leads the global expansion of the Carbon Trust's clean technology market transformation activities, which focus on how to maximise the impact of clean technology innovation to reduce carbon emissions, improve economic growth and deliver productivity. Areas include decarbonisation of heavy industries, the role for clean cooling in the energy system, and understanding how big data, IoT, AI and Blockchain enable clean transport to thrive.  

He provides advice on clean technology innovation to the UK government and industrial strategy to Local Enterprise Partnerships. For more than a decade he has lead break-through market transformation programmes for BEIS, that have delivered £5 billion of private sector investment in clean technologies. Paul also supports decarbonisation activities of developing world governments’ through the UN Environment's United for Efficiency effort, the Kigali Cooling Efficiency Programme, and international assignments. 

Prior to the Carbon Trust Paul worked at BHP Billiton. He holds an MBA (Cranfield), a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence (Aberdeen) and a joint honours degree in Geology and Computer Science (Sunderland).
