Calling for entries from companies and consortia interested in integrating GPS tracking data collected on breeding birds with at-sea survey data to enable accurate estimation of the proportion of breeding birds within at-sea surveys, with proper quantification of uncertainty.
The project has four main activities:
- Integrate modelling of tracking data and at-sea survey data, allowing the distributions of breeding and non-breeding birds to be mapped.
- Use densities of seabirds derived from at-sea data to apportion populations to breeding colonies (accounting for non-breeding birds), along with proper quantification of uncertainty.
- Provide recommendations on how the resulting maps can be incorporated into apportioning tools (and hence into assessments of displacement and collision effects) and spatial mapping tools.
- Define and develop a data integration framework that can be adapted to incorporate more wide-ranging data types.
