Ivan Islas-Cortes
Iván is an Associate Director based in the Carbon Trust’s Mexico City office. He is the sector lead for low carbon transport, with project experience including the development of Mexico City’s electromobility strategy. His technical experience before joining the Carbon Trust includes helping to develop the baseline and targets in Mexico’s national climate change strategy and nationally-determined contributions under the Paris Agreement, as well as developing emissions and fuel economy standards for new light duty vehicles in Mexico.
From 2005 to 2015, Iván was the Director of Environmental Economics at Mexico’s National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change, where he specialised in the evaluation and analysis of environmental and climate policy, with a particular focus on economic and regulatory instruments for reducing emissions and pollutants from the transport and energy sectors. Prior to joining the Carbon Trust he worked as an independent consultant for a range of clients including the German international development agency, GIZ, Centro Mario Molina, and USAID.
He holds a degree in Economics from Universidad de las Americas-Puebla and a master’s degree in Environmental Economics and Natural Resources from University College London.
