The Welsh Government Energy Service is a programme funded by the Welsh Government, providing free support to public sector organisations and community enterprises to help them progress their energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The programme supports the Welsh Government’s target for a Net Zero public sector and 1GW of locally owned renewable energy in Wales by 2030.

We run the Welsh Government Energy Service in partnership with the Energy Saving Trust (EST), supported by other consortium members and Local Partnerships. Since 2018 we have helped secure £210 million of investment into energy efficiency, low carbon heat, renewable energy and zero emission fleet, and installed 44.5 MW of new renewable energy capacity in Wales.

What we do

Energy efficiency and renewable energy projects: we provide technical, commercial and procurement support to help develop the business case and secure finance for large scale energy efficiency or renewable projects. We support public bodies and community enterprises from the project concept stage through to completion.

Low carbon vehicles: we offer analysis and advice to accelerate the transition to low emissions vehicles and electric vehicle charging infrastructure for public bodies.

Regional energy planning: we work with stakeholders in North Wales, Mid Wales, the Swansea Bay City Region and the Cardiff Capital Region to develop and implement long term regional energy strategies, promoting transformative, green economic growth.

Programme management: we are responsible for coordinating, delivering and reporting on the multimillion-pound programme on behalf of the Welsh Government.
