These examples will be collated into a library of projects, procedures, methods and tools to accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency. Sharing these practices can improve industrial competitiveness, reduce energy demand and cut carbon emissions.
The Carbon Trust is working with ten international partners to implement EU-MERCI. The project is funded through the Horizon 2020 framework implemented by the European Commission to accelerate research, technological development, and innovation.
EU-MERCI will provide a large database of good practices to promote energy efficiency and competitiveness, based on analysis of thousands of implemented projects. Using the best practice database, available from February 2017, EU-MERCI aims to answer the following questions:
- What are the most effective actions to improve the efficiency in a particular processes or industry sectors, and how can these be implemented?
- What are the most promising technologies for future deployment?
- What is the scale of efficiency improvement that can be achieved with different actions?
- What is the best way to measure, monitor and report savings?
- What are the associated costs with implementing energy efficiency?
Businesses that have implemented high quality energy efficiency projects are being invited to share their experiences and outcomes on the project’s website available here.
During the initial phase of the project companies are also being asked to complete a questionnaire to further understand current knowledge and awareness of energy efficiency in industrial sectors.
