Carbon Trust expands presence in South East Asia with new office in Singapore

The Singapore office will act as a regional hub and support clients to set transformational sustainability strategies, reduce emissions and accelerate the uptake of innovative technologies that will contribute to achieving a sustainable, net zero economy.

The new Singapore office will build on the Carbon Trust’s strong track record across South East Asia. Previous experience of advising governments includes work with Malaysian cities on climate action plans, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade on renewable energy policy, and the Singaporean government on its energy efficiency programme. The Carbon Trust has also provided assurance services to Indonesia’s first corporate green bond for the energy sector and has advised companies in the region on their sustainability activities.

The initial focus for the Carbon Trust’s Singapore office will be supporting the delivery of the ASEAN Low Carbon Energy Programme (LCEP), a £15 million aid programme supported by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Prosperity Fund. The programme will provide policy support, capacity building and technical assistance to facilitate green finance flows, and improve regulations, incentives and practical conditions for energy efficiency projects.

The Carbon Trust will lead the energy efficiency component of the LCEP across Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam; and play a supporting role on green finance in these countries, plus Indonesia. The LCEP’s lead delivery partner is EY.

Tom Delay CBE, Chief Executive of the Carbon Trust:

“We believe in a future where economic prosperity and environmental sustainability go hand in hand. The Carbon Trust works with leading businesses, governments and organisations to make this real and accelerate the move to a sustainable, low carbon economy. Expanding our presence in Asia will enable us to support green growth in this key region and we’re excited to be here.”

The Singapore office builds on the Carbon Trust’s existing global network in the United Kingdom, China, Mexico, South Africa and the Netherlands.
