Call for organisations to pilot new Sustainable Catering Standard

Applications are now open for caterers to help pilot the new Sustainable Catering Standard, which has been developed jointly by the Carbon Trust and Soil Association Certification.

This new award recognises the sustainability credentials of a caterer, showing that they are taking action on energy use, water consumption and waste produced as a result of providing food. This builds on the Soil Association’s existing Food for Life Catering Mark award, which recognises food providers that are taking steps to improve the sustainability of the food they serve.

The Sustainable Catering Standard will also allow organisations to demonstrate their practice is in line with the new balanced scorecard for public food procurement, developed by the UK government’s Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Organisations that are interested to find out more or would like to register to take part in the pilot should visit the Soil Association’s website here. Applications close on 16 September 2016. The full launch of the standard is expected by January 2017.
