Similarly, we have been involved in the methodology setting of science-based targets through our place on the technical advisory group.

Course curriculum

Course duration: 16.5 hours  

Day 1 - Net Zero and Greenhouse Gas Accounting (8 hours)

  • Understand what Net Zero is and why it matters to your business
  • Receive an introduction to greenhouse gas Scope 1, 2 and 3 footprint accounting
  • Learn how to calculate organisational and value chain footprints using publicly available tools

Day 2 – Science-based Target Setting and Decarbonisation Levers (8 hours)

  • Learn how to reduce and track organisational and value chain footprints
  • Understand the difference between Net Zero and carbon neutrality
  • Explore the role of offsets in your carbon reduction journey
  • Learn how to set near-term and long-term science-based targets towards Net Zero
  • Learn about the concept of marginal abatement cost curves

Day 3 - Personal Clinic and Q&A Session (optional – 30 mins)

  • 30 mins clinic session with 1-on-1 support on queries relating to your business’ baseline greenhouse gas emissions inventory
  • Identify potential reduction initiatives and near-term target to be set for your own business

^Participants will be entitled to Enterprise Singapore subsidised price if they meet the eligibility conditions indicated below.

Eligibility for Enterprise Singapore subsidy

  • Subsidised course fee of S$480 (not inclusive of GST) per participant is only applicable to nominees from local companies1 and trade associations (TACs).2
  • Each eligible entity will be supported for up to a maximum of 3 participants for each type of ESP Sustainability Course.3
  • Each individual will only be supported once for each type of ESP Sustainability Course.3
  • The company or TAC is liable to make full payment for the course fees if it or its participants are found to be ineligible or fail to complete the course.

  1. Registered and operating in Singapore. 
  2. TACs will need to fulfil the following criteria: a) registered with Registry of Societies (ROS) or Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA); and b) defined as a non-profit organisation. 
  3. There are currently three types of ESP Sustainability Courses: Foundational, Decarbonisation, and Sustainable Financing. Please refer to the ESP website here for the list of courses under each course type.

Note: If you are not eligible for the Enterprise Singapore subsidy and find the cost prohibitive, we encourage you to contact us. We are open to exploring various options that could better accommodate your situation.

⮞ Read Martijn's bio

Martijn Hoogerwerf is Head of Sustainable Finance APAC at ING. Based in Singapore, Martijn joined ING’s Sustainable Finance team in 2019 with over 10 years of experience in the sustainable finance markets, where he took on a variety of climate-related investment and advisory roles during this period.

Prior to moving into the environmental finance space, Martijn spent over eight years in structured finance and strategy roles at Fortis/ABN Amro and focused on expanding its wholesale banking activities in Asia. He moved to Hong Kong in 2006 as part of his tenure with Fortis.

Martijn brings a unique blend of commercial banking knowledge, sustainability expertise, and APAC experience. He has been instrumental in ensuring Sustainable Finance is front and center in client facing functions, securing leading mandates, and driving the growth of ING’s Sustainable Finance activities in APAC. Under Martijn’s leadership, ING has won multiple Sustainable Finance awards, including ‘Best Transition/Sustainability Linked Loan in APAC’ award by Global Finance in 2024. 
He is Chairman of ING’s APAC Sustainable Finance Forum, a member of ING’s Sustainable Finance Management Team and Sustainable Finance Quality Board.

Martijn holds an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona/Spain and an MSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.

Information on ESP

The ESP supports Singapore businesses to build capabilities in sustainability and capture new opportunities in the green economy. As part of the initiatives under the ESP, Enterprise Singapore has partnered industry players to conduct a series of ESP Sustainability Courses to help businesses build awareness and knowledge in sustainability.

The ESP Decarbonisation Course aims to equip business leaders with key knowledge to embark on decarbonisation, including principles of carbon accounting and disclosures, setting of decarbonisation targets, and means of decarbonisation. Participants can access tools and frameworks to learn the basics of carbon accounting, and identify decarbonisation pathways for their businesses.               
Carbon Trust’s Fundamentals of Decarbonisation for Business is part of the ESP Decarbonisation Course series.
